Maria Deakin

My professional career as a sports therapist began in 2000 after gaining my qualification in Sports Therapy Science.

Since then I have managed my own sports therapy business predominately working for myself. l have been involved in subcontracting work to local semi-professional football clubs, working alongside gyms, involvement in sporting activities and events, delivering cycle safety training and mountain bike instruction.

I have trained extensively in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries that have occurred through sporting and non-sporting activities. I work with a diverse range of clients ranging from professional sporting people to less active individuals and from the young to the elderly. I have gained valuable experience of working with less fortunate individuals who suffer from chronic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis helping them to maximise their general quality of life through pain management and combinations of therapies for well-being.

In 2010 I gained a degree in forensic science which added to my existing knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology. I’m a believer in ‘continuous professional development’ and my CPD is well within the expectations for a professional physical practitioner.

“I am motivated by the challenge and desire to help people to stay fit and well”.

My work is interesting and very rewarding which fuels my desire to keep helping and encouraging more people to be as healthy and active as they potentially can be. In 2014 I decided to expand my existing business by introducing a range of holistic/complementary therapies. I developed an interest in holistic/complementary therapies when I decided to find ways to further enhance my own general health and well-being. I have undertaken further professional studying and training for all of the therapies/treatments offered by Fit n Well.

I live a healthy and active lifestyle and when I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, which often involves mountain bike adventures.
